This expedition is for those who want to climb Mera and Island Peak which is a trek then a challenging extension to ascend the more technical Island Peak.
Mera and Island Peak is a special combination of peaks in the Everest region and one not to be missed, a classic!
Mera Peak At 6476m, is the highest ‘trekking peak’ suitable for anyone with little or no previous experience of using an ice axe and crampons. The spectacular route is well within the reach of regular mountain walkers with a good level of fitness. Our careful programme of acclimatisation is designed to maximise your chance of comfortably reaching this special summit.
During the course of this expedition we are constantly rewarded with fine views of world famous peaks, including the towering Everest and Lhotse. Mera Peak’s notable summit provides one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Nepal. This magical vantage point offers stunning views of five 8000m peaks, Everest and Lhotse to the north, Kanchenjunga and Makalu to the east and the majestic Cho Oyu to the west.
Island Peak This memorable 6189m peak offers a slightly more technical climb. The ascent involves a comfortable scramble, an intriguing rock ridge and then onto a wonderful glacier. Onward, a steep snow headwall leads to a classic summit ridge. From here you are afforded fabulous views of many Himalayan giants, including the immense face of Lhotse and the elegant pyramid of Ama Dablam. The rewarding return journey is via the main Everest trail, with its welcoming and comfortable tea houses and lodges.

The following link is a report from one of our clients, David M, on the 30th March 24 trip: https://www.yorkmc.org.uk/mera-and-island-peak-nepal-29th-march-to-27th-april-2024/
Fantastic trip, couldn't have asked for better. Graham [trip leader] was fabulous and a huge help to me when I found the going tough. He dealt with a lot on this trip with ease. We had a great team, being surrounded by wow views and of course the summit achievement...oh and a snow leopard to top it all!
Excellent overall service and focus on customer care and wellbeing. [AP had the] ability to tailor experience to customer needs. Gavin was a fantastic guide. Professional when required and integrated completely with the team at the same time. Excellent focus on safety of the UK team and Nepalese support team alike. The highlight was meeting a great group of people who supported each other through the good and tougher times. The Nepalese were amazingly generous and happy people.
Memorable trip, very hard both physically and mentally but would do it all again tomorrow. [Trip leader was] top bloke, very knowledgeable.
The team of reporters, Sherpas were very good and entertaining they set a good atmosphere and spirit on the Trail. Some of the guys were even more caring and concentrate health and safety. The Trail food was excellent and tell I come and do well adequate had excellent staff and those in the hope of Tamil. More and look after us in Kathmandu and was an excellent course.
Liam was a fantastic leader-not only for his efficiency and competence as a mountain leader but also his interest in culture and environment. Also an interesting travel companion. Thanks
