Located in Nagar Valley among the immense peaks of the Karakoram range, Spantik (7126m), or Golden Peak as it is also known, is a relatively accessible and straightforward peak for people looking to venture on to their first 7000m peak.
Spantik - This striking mountain lies in a less frequented part of the Karakoram. The South East ridge is a long snowy ridge, over 8km in length, which offers little technical difficulty, short sections of 30 to 40 degrees and relatively low objective danger. A three day trek takes us from the village of Arandu to our base camp at 4350m, after which the team will have seventeen days to climb the mountain. Three camps will be established above base camp: Camp 1 at 5100m, Camp 2 at 5650m and Camp 3 at 6250m.
First attempted in 1906, the mountain's summit was finally reached in 1955 by a German expedition led by Karl Kramer.
You should have previously climbed to between 5000m to 6000m and be technically competent to Scottish grade I/II or Alpine PD+. An ideal peak in the summer months for those wanting to visit the greater ranges.
* A deposit of £400 will be required at checkout.
Our experienced Expedition leader will be supported by our Pakistani High Altitude Porters (HAPs). In addition, we are also supported by equally good cooks who all have high levels of hygiene and care. Climber to HAP ratio 2:1. This is a professionally led non-guided expedition for experienced mountaineers who want to work as part of a team to tackle the mountain. We say non-guided because our leader and HAP team working with you will not be able to protect your every move. You must, therefore, have a broad base of mountaineering experience enabling you to be capable and willing to move between camps unassisted. You will have good support on the mountain from our leader and HAP team.
