Alpine Mountaineering Introduction Course - Gran Paradiso

Alpine Mountaineering Introduction Course - Gran Paradiso

From £2,050
Altitude 4,000m Grade: Introductory
6 Mountain Days Guide Ratio: 1:4

The Gran Paradiso (4061m) Alpine Introduction Course provides a great induction to Alpine Mountaineering and your first 4000m peak.

The ascent is an easy snow climb in the stunning Italian Alps. You will be introduced to Alpine Refuges, ice axe and crampons and ascend two lower 3000m summits during the acclimatisation period.

Previous Experience & Fitness

You should have a good level of fitness as Alpine Mountaineering can be very tiring. Normally we would expect you to be able to enjoy consecutive 7-8 hours days in the British mountains with a medium pack. You do not need to have previous experience with crampons and ice axe as our Alpine Intro courses, such as Gran Paradiso Alpine Introduction, provide sufficient training to meet this prerequisite. Please note this is a suggested itinerary and the actual programme may change as a result of weather, conditions on the mountain, availability of mountain huts and individual levels of fitness. If due to any of these reasons a summit attempt is not possible then we usually switch our attentions to Gran Paradiso or another similar objective. If any extra costs for accommodation, transport or food are incurred beyond the suggested itinerary then you will need to pay these directly.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
