Our fifth Aconcagua expedition of the season set off on 7th January 2017.
Leader: Chris Allewell
22nd January
SUMMIT SUCCESS! Chris has just called from the summit of Aconcagua – everyone has made it to the top! It is about 11.30 local time. The team are all feeling great, and a little emotional but over the moon at their success. The winds have been light and the sun has been shining with only a little snow on the Canaletta but they have had a chilly night and are all in their down jackets. A few more celebration pictures before they head back to Camp Colera and a well earned sleep. Tomorrow they will descend to Base Camp for some more celebrations!
21st January
Chris has called in today. The team have just had their breakfast and have been sitting staring up at the beauty of Aconcagua, with a perfect blue sky in the background. Everyone is itching to go! So today they will head up to Camp Colera and get plenty of food in them for their Summit attempt, they will leave camp in the early hours of the 22nd. Good luck everyone!
19th January
Chris called today to update us on the team’s progress. They’ve just arrived at Camp 3 and are setting up camp. There is a rest day planned for tomorrow and they will be trying for the summit on 22nd or 23rd January which is looking like a good weather forecast. Everyone is healthy and sleeping well, and Chris is starting to get his voice back (although still sounding a little croaky!). All in all, the sun is shining and they’ve got stunning views from their current camp!
17th January
The team are spending the day finalising their packing before leaving Base Camp on their route to the summit which we aim to be at in 8 days time. The sun has been shining from a cloudless sky since we arrived in Argentina so the load carry of expedition food to Camp 1 yesterday was quite warm.
Its Mark’s wife’s birthday – so best wishes from the whole team here on Aconcagua.

13th January
Chris called in today with an update to say everyone is safe and well. They are currently at base camp at Plaza Argentinas and the whole team have passed the medicals so they are good to go! They had a lovely walk in up the remote Relinchos valley, with picturesque landscapes and amazing BBQs on the way cooked by the muleteers. They will do a load carry up to Camp 1 tomorrow.
