Aconcagua

Departed 29th December 2017

Expedition Leader: Duncan Francis

14th January

Despite a valiant effort, the team turned around part way up the canaletta at 6700m, due to heavy snow and significant wind slab. It made for a tough summit night and conditions were not safe to continue any further. The team are now safely back down at base camp and trekking out tomorrow.

12th January

Duncan called this morning to say that the team are all going well and they are making good progress. They did a carry up to Camp Colera (5970m) yesterday, and will move up today ready for their summit bid tomorrow. Looking at the forecast, winds are due to pick up after tomorrow so the team are going to take the opportunity of calm weather to go for it. Good luck!

7th January

It’s been a perfect bright day for the team walking up to Camp 1 today.

1st January

The team have started their 3 day trek into Plaza Argentinas, the base camp on the Vacas valley side of Aconcagua. Today they will stay at Pampa de Lenas and enjoy the BBQ prepared by the mulateers.

30th December

The team have arrived into Mendoza and despite Matthew’s baggage delay all is well with the team. Tomorrow the team will buy the rest of their supplies, obtain their permits and then make the 4 hour drive to Penitentes.
