26th January
All clients have arrived safely from some very long flights. After having the obligatory kit explosion in their rooms and a well needed shower we have headed out for the perfect cure to airline food, Stake.
Every one is rearing to go now. We will sort out all the permits today and take the bus up to Pennetenties this morning.
29th January
We have now left Casa de Piedra and are on our way to Base Camp and enjoyed our first views of Aconcagua itself.
After leaving camp we used the Mules to cross the Rio de la Vacas to save our feet from the cold. All the team are in good spirits and enjoying the trek!
30th January
Both teams arrived at base camp yesterday, the team that climbed Ojos del Salado before Aconcagua are moving up to Camp 1 today, while the other team are having a rest day at base camp before they make their first carry to Camp 1 tomorrow. It appears the winds are forecast to pick up over the weekend and early into next week, whcih could make it a challenging summit bid for the Ojos team.
2nd February
David has called in with an update. Due to strong winds and damaged tents the Ojos team have now had to descend back to Base Camp. Their number of days available for a summit attempt has unfortunately run out.
The remaining team have taken extra tents and headed up to Camp 1 so we will have more news soon.
5th January
My team is due to move to camp 3 today with the aim of summiting on the 7th or 8th. The guys from the Ojos del Salado extension were beaten back by the wind before Camp Colora.
6th January
Ian has called from Camp 3 to give us an update. They are heading up to Camp Colera today and will rest before their summit bid tomorrow now (7th).
The team are all fit and well and in good spirit’s despite feeling tired. The conditions are good now with much lighter winds and they have been enjoying some cold but sunny conditions. Fingers crossed and good luck from everyone at Adventure Peaks
9th January
Unfortunately, weather stopped play for the teams summit attempt. They got to Camp Colora but we’re unable to summit with the wind strength. Ian and Chris got to within 50m of the summit but had to turn around but still a great effort by everyone in the team. They have dropped down to Plasa do Mules yesterday and are walking out today. They will be back in Mendoza by 10th Feb.
Good luck guys. Hope you make it to summit and back down safely. Dave has been doing a good job of checking out the restaurants in town for you and you'll really appreciate it after freeze dried. M
