We arrived safely at the hotel in Terskol complete with all luggage. Everyone is well but tired from the flights, weather is great, hot and sunny and we got some great views of Elbrus on the drive in. Tomorrow we start acclimatization on a walk up to the observatory on the lower slopes of Elbrus.
1st September
Today we took our walk up to the observatory in very hot fine weather, making it up in 3 hours, which is a very good time. Great views of Elbrus and Donguzeron, tomorrow we ascend Cheget Peak, all the team seem fit and strong!
2nd September
Today our group completed their acclimatization hike up Cheget mountain, 3400m in beautiful weather…note the shorts and tee shirts!!! Our south side expedition to Elbrus is based on a unique itinerary developed over the past ten years. It takes you away from the cable cars in the early acclimatisation stages of the expedition, provides two additional summits both with stunning views of Elbrus and has consistently given us 100% client success on multiple expeditions. Tomorrow the group will climb their second acclimatisation summit, Peak Andreachy before heading off to summit Elbrus.
3rd September
Today we continued our acclimatization with the ascent of Andreachi. A very hot blue sky day had the boys a little tiered out by the time they reached the top. The views however made up for it and kept them smiling for most of the even tougher descent, all good prep for summit day! Tomorrow we move up to the barrels and continue our preparations for our summit bid at the weekend, weather will dictate when but for now its holding fine.
7th September
After another 2 days of acclimatization on Elbrus, this morning at 03:00 we shared a snow cat with another group that took us to 5000m for our summit attempt. In excellent conditions the whole group made the summit in an excellent time of 3, 1/2 hrs. After a very long and tiering 2000m decent we arrived back at the barrels in time for lunch. We are now back at our hotel in the valley looking forward to some shashlik if we can avoid getting wet from the current thunderstorm.
