September 2018
At the end of September we played host to the LMAX Exchange Everest Rugby Challenge team, who we are working with in preparation for the highest ever rugby match. The team will be raising more than £200,000 for children with disabilities and facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland.
The team captains are Rugby stars Lee Mears, Ollie Phillips, Shane Williams and Tamara Taylor and they aim to break the previous world record set on Kilimanjaro.
At heights of 6,500 metres they aim to play the highest game of full contact rugby and the highest game of mixed touch rugby in history – all in support of Wooden Spoon.
We spent the weekend with the team who completed the Fairfield Horseshoe on day one, then into the Langdale Valley for day two. This was the first time most of the team have met each other and it was great to get to know everyone at this early stage.
Carrie Gibson has traveled on many of our expeditions including Everest North Ridge, Denali, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Island Peak & Ama Dablam. Carrie is also the first British woman to summit Himlung Himal.
