Course: Everest Skills course

Simon was keen to find out if he has what it takes to climb Everest so we created a bespoke version of our Scottish Winter Walking Skills course.

We started the week with an ascent of the NE ridge of Stob Coire nan Lochan looking at good movement skills using an ice axe and crampons. On Tuesday we headed up to Ben Nevis to climb Ledge Route. This got us onto some steeper and exposed ground with the opportunity to introduce basic mountaineering rope skills.

The weather kept getting better through the week and on Wednesday we made our way up Curved Ridge in glorious sunshine to try some steeper rock climbing.

With perfect conditions we then went for a traverse of the Aonach Eagach ridge, possibly the finest ridge scramble on the UK mainland. By the end of the week it was feeling much more like spring than winter and we went to the Polldubh crags in Glen Nevis to do some more rock climbing and look at using fixed lines, which will be a useful skill for some of Simon’s future plans.
