Summit Success! Congratulations to Dave and the Team on reaching the summit of Island Peak. They are all now safely down at base camp and we will have more information once they are back down in the Valley.
30th October
The team had an atmospheric acclimatisation walk above Chukhung on Saturday, reaching 5000m with glimpses of Ama Dablam. Feeling well acclimatised, they are now at high camp and plan to head up for the summit of Island Peak tonight. Good luck everyone!
27th October
The team have just completed an acclimatisation walk to 4900m above Dingboche and they will practice their fixed rope skills after lunch. Tomorrow they will trek to Chukhung, the last village before Island Peak base camp. All the group are in good spirits. Tea House food has been excellent with a mix of local foods and Western dishes such as pizza and chips; Garlic soup is top of the list for the team as a starter. Fresh ginger and honey tea is also working its way up the list of the team’s favourite beverages. Our High Altitude cook team have just arrived. They now become our number one team, as any expedition is only as good as its food. They will earn their keep as we climb up to high camp at 5600m over the next few days.
25th October
The team have had their first view of Island Peak sandwiched between Ama Dablam and Lhotse, always a fantastic sight.
24th October
The group have been up to 3900m on their acclimatisation walk in readiness for our move up to Deboche 3820m tomorrow. It follows the sequence of climb high sleep low, that will gradually build up our strength to safely climb higher over the coming days. The weather has been cloudy since our arrival BUT the positive vibes are it’s being kind and saving our sunshine for the summit days! Group doing well and putting the world to right each evening over dinner which has been delicious Sizzling Yak steaks have become the favourite.
23rd October
The team are now at Namche Bazaar, enjoying 2 days here with the village’s coffee shops and pizzerias. They took an early helicopter up to Lukla yesterday. Fingers crossed the weather starts to clear before they start their trek up the Khumbu valley.
20th October
Bags packed; tents, stoves and food assembled and ready to go. The team flies out to Kathmandu today. Watch this space for further updates.
Dave Pritt is the Director of Adventure Peaks. With over 30 years of mountaineering feats, he is a very experienced high altitude mountaineer who has led expeditions to K2, Broad Peak and five Everest expeditions. Dave has completed the 7 summits, led an expedition to Ski the South Pole Last Degree, Satopanth in India and in 2007 he guided Ian McKeever to break the world record for the seven summits in 156 days. He is lucky enough to have climbed on the majority of our advertised peaks, but the Tien Shan remains his favourite destination.
