13th April.
The team are now well and truly rested after spending the extra day we gained due to summiting Island Peak on the first attempt. browsing and exploring the local shops in Lukla. Soaking up the atmosphere in this charming little village, relaxing in the sunshine has felt more of a city break than a mountaineering expedition! Everybody has relished the opportunity to get Clean almost using up the entire water supply in our tea house. Early start tomorrow for the 7:30 flight back to Kathmandu for a bit of sight seeing then its the long haul return to the Uk via Doha leaving in the evening. It’s fair to say this has been an amazing trip for all involved with all bar one person climbing higher than they have ever been before, learning new skills along the way and getting to experience life in the greatest mountain range on the planet! Dean
11th April. Congratulations to Vic, Simon and Suneel who made the top with Sue making it to the final steep climb and Rod who got to the glacier but just missing out on the top. Setting off at 1am from base camp in perfect weather we all scrambled up to the start of the glacier then roped up for the maze of ice which led us to the start of the final ascent to the summit. All put in a superb effort and were rewarded with superb views. Dean
8th April: The team have now reached Base Camp at Island Peak and are aiming to make their summit attempt tonight as the weather forecast is favourable. Dean says the team have a good rapour and have bonded well so they have been enjoying a shared sense of camaraderie. We wish them luck with their summit attempt!
6th April: Dean rang today to say they are now all in Dingboche after a good day with an acclimatisation trek to a Monastery this morning.
This afternoon they practised skills and ropework in preparation for Island Peak summit day. Tomorrow the group will move to Chukung in the morning, and after lunch will have another acclimatisation trek, this time to Chukung Ri at 5550m.
All the team are well and in good spirits.
3rd April: All the group a now happy to be in Namche Bazar enjoying all the amazing food and showers! Everybody is looking forward to catching up on lost sleep due to a 15 minute landing delay at Kathmandu which ultimately led to a 5 hour detour to India.
Weather has been good with lots of sunshine, clear skies and light winds. Most in the group are now feeling the effects of being at 3500m many of whom have never been this high before and are looking forward to pushing themselves even further.
Great light hearted atmosphere in the team – good times ahead. Planning an acclimatisation walk tomorrow to Everest View Hotel. Dean
1st April: Have met all of the clients except for Vic at the airport (who is catching a different flight). Everybody is happy and in good spirits with a sense of humour already making itself known, clients have informed me that they are happy to have not got diarrhoea yet. Dean
Dean has led expeditions to Uganda, Borneo, Tanzania, Russia, Morocco, Tajikistan, France, India, Nepal, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Kyrgyzstan, Zanzibar, Cambodia and Vietnam among others. A dream goal that Dean is currently working towards is to lead a successful expedition on every continent; having already successfully led multiple expeditions to all continents with only Australia and the Antarctic left, this dream is closer than ever.
Greetings from New Zealand Rod. We are all proud of you. Enjoy the rest of the trip xx
