29th December
Dave Kenyon has sent us a message to say that the three climbers and himself, who all arrived at different times on different flights have all met up with the guides and trekking support staff and are on their way to the north side of Mount Kenya to the Sirimon Park gate from where their approach to the mountain begins. This afternoon, once the formalities at the park gate are completed and porter loads distributed, they have a 3 to 4 hour trek to Old Moses camp at 3300m.
There is a bit of rain forecast for today but then the weather looks as if it should be very settled for the rest of the week for them.
1st January
Dave and the team went to the summit of Pt Lenana today and are now at the Austrian Hut. They will make their attempt on Nelion and Bation tomorrow.
3rd January
A brief message came in from Dave this morning to report that on Friday the remaining summits of Mt Kenya were ‘bagged’ with John and Chris topping out on Bation and Steve reaching the top of Nelion. Well done to them all. Today, with some time to spare, they have gone off to do some more climbing on Point John.
5th January
Dave called to say that they are all down at MacKinder’s Camp having had a good time on and around the summits of Mount Kenya. Dave, John and Chris will be back in Nairobi this evening and Steve will be heading off to the Samburu National Park for a coupe of day’s ‘on safari’.
