Leader David Fisher
David, Fergus, Ian and Simon successfully summited Carstensz Pyramid early this morning.
Setting off from base camp at 2am, to reach the summit ridge by 5am in time for sunrise, then continuing on to reach the summit a 7am.
The weather was perfect, no wind, only a little cloud with the stars clearly visible in the patches of clear sky, warm, with phenomenal views from the top.
The team are all now safely back at base camp enjoying some well earned rest, before looking to take the first available helicopter back to Timika.
The team spent this morning refreshing their fixed line skills, reaching a height of around 4500m.
They are now prepped and going for the summit tomorrow, starting at 2am.
We have all arrived at basecamp after a spectacular flight in. Basecamp is currently in the sun and warm, the team are excited to be here, as we watch those who have been on the summit today cross the wire bridge on the skyline and make their way back down.
All the team have now all arrived and assembled at Makassar. After a brief overnight at the hotel we will be taking an early morning flight to Timika, where we will meet our local support staff, and make the final arrangements. We spend 2 nights in Timika so along with preparations everyone will get the chance to catch up on some rest and see some of Western Papua.
The team set off on the 8th of October for this amazing expedition to Carstenzs Pyramid ( Puncak Jaya)
