Leader : Jire Rai
On the 29th the team decided to push up to high camp and aimed for the 30th for their summit bid, avoiding the strong winds forecast for the 31st. They whole team reached the summit at 10:15am local time and made it all the way down to Dingboche. A great effort by all. Today the team trekked down to Pangboche. Jennifer & Jire kindly sent through the summit photos below. Jennifer & Ashley have now helicoptered from Pangboche and Catherine will continue her trek down to Lukla with Jire Rai.
Yesterday, the team walked up the ridge behind Dingboche to 5076m. They were rewarded with views of Cho Oyu, Makalu and eagles soaring on the thermals above them. It also proved to be a small world when Catherine bumped into a cycling club friend.
Today, the team moved up to the last village at Chhukhung. They have climbed Chhukhung Ri and will have a refresher of skills this afternoon. Tomorrow they will head to Island Peak base camp.
The team are at Dingbouche, first sighting of Island Peak! Now seeing Ama Dablam from its north side. Friendly yaks en route, enjoying momos, looking forward to the coming days.
An update in from the team to say that Catherine, Jen&Ashley are in Pangboche @3950m. Great views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam en route. All in good health and high spirits.
Catherine messaged at the weekend to say that weather had stopped the flights to Lukla on Saturday, but they were able to fly on Sunday. They are now in Namche.
Catherine will be flying out today from the UK. Jennifer & Ashley will meet Catherine in Namche on the 24th March.
