Carrie has messaged to say the whole team reached the summit of Kilimanjaro this morning. They set off in good conditions, but the weather soon deteriorated, however the team pushed thorugh and to make the top.The whole team are now back down at camp and having some lunch. After lunch they will descend to Mweka Camp at 3100m.
We have a great team ready to support us to the summit. Emmanuel our main guide, Evans, James and Clinton. Venice, our cook, calls himself the stomach engineer!
Carrie called in today to report the team has completed the ascent of the Baranco Wall, and all were safely at Karanga Camp (4150m). Despite a mixture of apprehension and excitement beforehand, they all completed this section of the trek without any difficulty and much enjoyment, the reward of pizza along with fresh fruit waiting for them afterwards.
The team have now arrived at Baranco Camp. The weather has generally been very sunny, but the mist rolled in as we arrived into camp today. We had a fantastic lunch at the Lava towers today.
The team have arrived at Moir camp. Lunch was chips with avacado salad and pineapple. Many of the group had double helpings and all the team are in high spirits.
Our team departs the UK on Wednesday the 2nd of August, you can follow them on the mountain on our map from the from the 4th of August.
The team have all arrived in Kilimanjaro at various points through the day, those that arrived early have taken advantage of sitting relaxing by the pool. Tonight we have met Emanuel our guide, and he chatted through the trek with the emphasis on poli poli, slowly slowly. The team are all eager to get going and tomorrow we drive to the park gates to organise our permits and begin our journey firstly through the rainforest zone, which is the lush and green belt that surrounds the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s a short day which is great to stretch the legs after sitting on the plane.
