Kilimanjaro Machame route - 16th September 2023

Leader: Jordan Cawar

22nd September 2023 - Summit success!!

Jordan rang in from Mweka Camp this afternoon, to happily report that all of the team had successfully summited Kilimanjaro this morning.

They all set off at 11pm last night, then split into two separate teams through the ascent, being looked after between Jordan and the local guiding team. Everyone had made it to Stella Point (5795m) by 6.40am in perfect time for sunrise, then continued on to Uhura Peak (5895m), with all team members having arrived at the true summit by 8.30am this morning.

Everyone is happy but tired after a long day.

They will be spending the night a Mweka camp tonight for a well deserved rest, then will continue to descend to the park gate at the bottom of the mountain tomorrow.

Congratulations everyone!!

21st September 2023 - Preparing for the summit

Jordan called to say the team have had a great day climbing the Baranco Wall. They were treated to beautiful views again in the good weather. They have had a good dinner and are now settling down to get some rest before summit night.

19th September 2023 - Hakuna Matata

The team have arrived at Shira Camp as with the previous day when they arrived into camp the entire local team have gathered to sing the "Kilimanjaro song". They are always so happy when singing and i'm sure by the end of the trip our team will be joining in " Hakuna Matata"

On the walk yesterday they saw Colobus Monkeys as they walked up through the rain forest. Today walk to Shira camp has been in very good weathe and they are all coping well with the altitude. As they wait for dinner and sunset in the next hour, they are sitting eating popcorn and are very much looking forward to the trek up to the Lava Tower tomorow.

17th September 2023 - Team have arrived in Moshi

The team have all arrived safe, and were treated to a smoothie on landing. We have gone through the brief for the ascent of Kilimanjaro and met some of the in-country support team, followed by some well earned rest by the pool after the flight.

The evening was spent going through last minute kit checks and baggage weighing before heading to the park gates early tomorrow morning. With the day being rounded off enjoying the hotel buffet and beers before hitting the hay, includng a birthday cake and song for Marcella.

Everyone is very excited about starting tomorrow.

Jordan.
