2nd of May

We’ve received had a full update from Mat over the weekend. The group have had a good week of trekking and taking in spectacular views of Mera and the twin peaks of its impressive south face.

The first day took them to Poyan (2800m) where they spent the first night to begin the acclimatisation process. The following day the group took a leisurely pace with ups and downs to Pangkonngma (2846m). Over the first few days the weather has been fair, making for some very pleasant walking.

On Friday the group climbed up through an abundance of rhododendrons and bamboo to the Pangkonngma La (3173m) and then on to Chalem Kharka (3600m) the following day.

The gradual acclimatisation has been going well with the highest point so far, Chunbu Khaka (4200m), being reached on day 7. As the team made their way down to Khote the going got easier as the altitude reduced. The weather turned to rain, so the team are currently drying off and resting in Khote.

Charlie has made the decision to rest in Khote and then he will walk down with the clients who are aren’t going over to Island Peak, when they stop there on their way back. He is happy and Khote is a pleasant spot to spend a couple of days resting.

Here are some pictures of the group on the adventure so far:
