The team made there summit bid yesterday and reached a height of 6400m. They had to delay their attempt as there was a problem with the truck when they set off on the 3rd Jan, which meant it had to go for repair. Today they will head to the costal resort town of Bahia Inglesa for a bit of relaxation before heading home.
Today the team walked to 6300m on Ojos del Salado, completing it in good time, in preparation for their summit bid. They have opted to stay at Laguna Verde as the winds are reasonably strong at the moment lower down on Ojos.
The team have had a successful ascent of San Francisco and enjoyed their relaxing time at Laguna Verde. Yulia even braved the cold temperatures of the lake itself, which I'm sure are a little bit colder than Rydal water...Below are some of the photos from the last couple of days. They also got their first views of their main and final objective Ojos del Salado.
Today the team will be relaxing with a walk around the lagoon and a dip in the hot springs
Today the group will drive to Laguna Verde, where they will visit the hot springs and make an ascent of Volcano San Francisco tomorrow.
It took 4.5 hours to walk to the top of Siete Hermanas, they spent about half an hour up there taking in the views and breathing in the thinner air at 4950m. Tomorrow the team will head over to Laguna del Negro
Yesterday, the group took a short Christmas Day acclimatisation walk before transferring to their campsite for the night at Laguna Santa Rosa.
Today after waking to a dramatic vista across Laguna Santa Rosa, they will make an ascent of the 4950m hihgh Siete Hermanas Peak (Sevent Sisters Peak).
Copiapo is like a small oasis town in a vast mountainous desert. Yulia and Graham have been doing a little bit of shopping, relaxing and sampling the local delicacies before meeting up with their guides and preparing to head into the mountains.
Excitement is building as Yulia & Graham prepare to depart for South America. They will arrive into Copiapo on the 22nd December.
