Yesterday, the team safely crossed the Gondogoro La, they described it a stunning, but brutal. Today they have trekked down to Saicho, they were rewarded with great views of Laila Peak on the way down. Tomorrow will be the last day of their trek, after reaching Hushe they will meet the jeeps for the journey back to Skardu.
Yesterday the team visited the Gilkey Memorial before leaving K2 base camp for Concordia. K2 was looking majestic as they departed this historical place. They had heard that Andrew and Carol had reached Liligo on their return journey to Skardu. Today the team have arrived at Ali Camp, the final camp before heading over the Gondogoro La pass, one of the true highlights of this journey, offering stunning views of the Gasherbrums, Broad Peak, and K2, as well as many other notable peaks.
After an 8 hour walk from Concordia, and 7 days of trekking along the Baltoro Glacier, the team have fianlly arrived at K2 base camp.
Yesterday Andy & Carol visited K2 base camp and returned back to Concordia in the evening. This morning the team shared their last breakfast together before Andy and Carol head back down the Baltoro Glacier towards Askole. The rest of the team will move to K2 base camp today. Rain is forecast over the next few days, but they are hopeful it will be clear for crossing the Gondogoro La.
Today the team arrived at Concordia, home to probably one of the most impressive mountaineering landscapes in the world. A 360 degree panorama of huge precipitous mountains.
Today the twam reached Goro II, the first camp on the glacier. They were rewarded with fab views of Broad Peak & Gasherbrum 4. Some sad news also today the groups travel pal Billy the goat is no longer but I'm sure the evening meal would have been tasty for the meat eaters in the group...
Tomorrow the team will trek to Concordia the junction point of the Baltoro and Goodwin Austen Glaciers.
The team have arrived at Urdukas today. They have had their first sights of Broad Peak and Gasherbrum IV and have even spotted their first glimpses of ice on the glacier as the terrian gradually changes from just moraine.
The team have arrived Paju, all eeling healthy, spirits are high, and the weather is hot. They have signed off in true postcard fashion of wish you were here.
Despite the intial travel disruption for some of the team leaving the UK, they were able to stay on schedule for the travel up to Skardu. Today they completed their first day of the trek from Askole to Jhola.
Today the team are starting their journey to Pakistan. They will fly to Islamabad and then, weather permitting, fly to Skardu on the 20th July. From Skardu they will make their final preparations before travelling to Askole, where they will start their trek to K2 base camp along the infamous Baltoro Glaceir.
Stu Peacock is a very experienced high altitude mountaineer who has been to the Summit of Everest, Broad Peak, Cho Oyu, Manaslu and climbed on K2. His other expeditions include: Ama Dablam, Annapurna IV, Peak Lenin, Aconcagua, Khan Tengri, Tien Shan Unclimbed, Korzhenevskaya, Himlung Himal, Baruntse, Mera & Island Peak, Alpamayo, Bolivian Peaks, Spantik, Carstensz Pyramid, Elbrus, MtArarat, Mexican Volcanoes, Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro. He was the first Brit to summit Everest via the North Ridge 3 times and has climbed Everest from both the North & South sides.
