On day one I took the guys up a grade 2 climb in Glencoe to assess their ability on steep ground and also to re-cover ice axe and crampon work. This involved arresting a slip, cutting steps, bucket seat belays and different walking techniques. We also looked at rope management skills and climbing techniques.
For day two we took the gondola up Aonach Mor and went onto the West face. Here the guys led themselves up a grade one climb under close supervision. This involved building belays from spikes and nuts, belaying a leader and a second using various techniques, stance management, rope management, route choice and general mountain sense!
We covered a huge amount and the guys went away from it with greater confidence in their skills and abilities as mountaineers.
