The Alpine Big Two

The Alpine Big Two

From £6,375
Altitude 4,478m Grade: Advanced
9 Mountain Days Guide Ratio: 1:2 and 1:1

When you think of the Alps, everyone’s dream is to climb the big two; the Eiger and the Matterhorn.

We have combined these and more into a twelve day adventure. The Alpine Big Two course is ideal for those with some previous Alpine and Rock Climbing experience. If you have no previous mountaineering experience, we recommend that you join one of our Alpine Introductory Courses before attempting this challenge.

Matterhorn 4476m

Hornli Ridge AD- or SW Italian Ridge AD. We usually climb the iconic Hornli Ridge AD- from Zermatt but sometimes may choose to climb the SW Italian Ridge AD from Cervinia.

Eiger 3970m

Mittellegi Ridge D or South Ridge AD. The Mittellegi or South Ridge routes can be taken according to conditions however the plan would be to ideally traverse the mountain via the two ridges, up the Mittellegi Ridge and down the South Ridge. The Eiger is the lowest but the most technical of the Alpine Big Three.

Please note the exact programme may vary according to hut availability and the prevailing conditions.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
