Matterhorn

From £4,320
Altitude 4,478m Grade: Intermediate
6 Mountain Days Guide Ratio: 1:2 then 1:1 on the Matterhorn

The Matterhorn is one of the most recognisable and exquisitely beautiful mountains in the world, a must do mountain on any Alpinist's tick list!

The aim of this course is to climb via the Hörnli ridge from Zermatt after acclimatising and training on peaks in the Saas Fee Valley. Three days have then been set aside to attempt the Matterhorn. This climb is very dependent on the weather forecast and the conditions prevailing on the mountain. If it is not possible or your guide feels you are not ready for the climb then you will attempt an alternative peak.

Previous Experience

This course is suitable for those with considerable previous Alpine mountaineering and rock climbing experience. We recommend one of our Alpine Introduction courses or Rock Climbing courses if you don't have these skills, in order to build up to the Matterhorn.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:

[The guides Massimo & Guido] were outstanding and a credit to mountain guides generally. I would say that their level of experience and expertise is far above that expected and they taught us valuable lessons in mountaineering which will stick with us and make us not only better mountaineers but safe and able to make good decisions. Please can you at Adventure Peaks make sure you recognise these two guides and pass on how we really value their instruction. Keep them on your books! At the hotel the staff were fabulous. All was great.

This was my second AP trip. As with the first it was excellent in every respect. Our guide Hannah was exceptional.
