9th November: We are all back in Kathmandu now, having enjoyed our trip and successfully completed our goals. Some of the group have spent a considerable amount of time in the shower since their return! Tonight we are off to the famous Rum Doodle for our evening meal. Tomorrow we will have time to enjoy the sights and sounds of Kathmandu before our flights home for western food and more showers!
7th November: The group are all extremely well and now back in Monjo enjoying typical Nepalese hospitality (and some, a celebratory Chang beer). We enjoyed a great night at Everest Base Camp with perfect weather and a lovely meal from a local chef. We all felt it was well earned after the last few days trekking through the Cho La Pass and Khumbu Glacier.
After a night at EBC we travelled back down to Namche for shopping and culture. The customary monastery visit,Yeti scalp and visit to local schools have made a lovely finish to the whole trip. Dean
2nd November: We have now arrived at Lobuche village. The trip here was a perfect acclimatisation trek. It was a tough trek along Cho Las Pass and the team shared some group hugs and tears after they arrived. Many of the group have now walked on a glacier for their first time so it’s been a good day filled with memorable experiences. The team is positive and happy and looking forward to moving on to Everest Base Camp next. Dean
28th October: We are now at Machermo at 4465m, higher than many of the group have ever been before! The weather has been beautiful during the day times with clear bright sunny skies and very little wind. The last few evenings it has snowed, but this has melted in the morning sun.
Today we got our first really clear views of Cho Oyu (8201m), a peak some of the group have already added to their wish list for the future!
Everyone is well and eating too much of the abundant food on offer! The porters and support team are friendly and efficient and so we are all getting on well together. Tomorrow will be a rest day but we will go for another short walk to gain another 100m or so of altitude to aid acclimatisation, before returning to Machermo for a 2nd night. On our acclimatisation walk we should get our first glimpse of the Cho La Pass – a route over which we will be travelling in a few days time.
25th October: We are now preparing to leave Namche Bazaar after having a relaxed afternoon around the local village and a morning trekking to the Everest lookout point which rewarded us with spectacular views of the world’s highest mountain. Everybody is in good spirits and looking forward to the next phase of the expedition. Dean.
23rd October: The Team have now arrived at Phakding after flying into Lukla this morning and are looking forward to getting to Namche Bazaar. They enjoyed a guided tour of Kathmandu yesterday and everyone is in good spirits. Weather is good, days and evenings are mild with no rain.
Dean has led expeditions to Uganda, Borneo, Tanzania, Russia, Morocco, Tajikistan, France, India, Nepal, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Kyrgyzstan, Zanzibar, Cambodia and Vietnam among others. A dream goal that Dean is currently working towards is to lead a successful expedition on every continent; having already successfully led multiple expeditions to all continents with only Australia and the Antarctic left, this dream is closer than ever.
Hope all is going well and looking forward to news of the expedition. Have a few pints in Kathmandu on me! Thinking of you and I know where I'd rather be at the moment. Take care
